A new bakery has opened in midtown.

Pie Face!!

Pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons!! With real Australians serving you that say tom-ah-to sauce rather than tom-ay-to ketchup!

I stood beside an English guy at the counter. We both ordered sausage rolls, looked at each other & grinned.

Welcome to the hood, Pie Face! You’re a welcome addition. Just in time for Australia Day tomorrow.

(Although $4.35 for a sausage roll is daylight robbery).

53rd & Broadway.

MUST visit next time I’m in NYC.

If only your New Years Eve kiss could look thissweet?

Starting in September 2011, shortly after he brought his keen eye to the colorful goings-on around Lincoln Center during Fashion Weekphotographer Zoran Milich widened his lens as part of a special assignment for LIFE.com: In a new, weekly feature called Gothamatic, he wandered the streets of New York City, observing all the little things that make living in the five boroughs such a beautiful, frustrating, amusing experience. Now, as the another year in the city winds down, take a look at The Best of Gothamatic.

Hungry in Brooklyn: The Amazing Taste of Brooklyn

hungryinbklyn:

Our friends over at POGO Events have a pretty awesome Saturday planned for August 7th. The Amazing Taste of Brooklyn will certainly be an Amazing Race, minus zip-lining through a jungle. You will, however, experience an adventure of taste as the race takes…

Attention NYC foodies/adventurers!

This Is The House From “The Royal Tenenbaums.” The folks at the AV Club took this video tour of the Manhattan mansion where Wes Anderson filmed “The Royal Tenenbaums,” a house the director thought only existed in his imagination until he saw it live in person. So here we have an instance of a real house evoking the fictional ideal of a real place without actually representing the REALITY of that real place. There’s Excedrin in the medicine cabinet if you need it.

Confession: The TONY Singles issue is one of my FAVORITES of the year. Did I ever e-mail any of the said singles? No. Did I want to a couple of times? Yeah. Point is, if you’re single in NYC and one of these dudes/dudettes catches your eye, you have nothing to lose. And what a cute way to tell people how you met.

timeoutnewyork:

Are you looking for a date? Our spring singles issue is on newsstands now, with lots of rad New Yorkers who want to make a love connection.

Plus, there are some names you may recognize: Gemini & Scorpio party-planner Larisa, New York Red Bulls player Stephen, Gawker writer Brian, and Tumblr’s own Topherchris are all among the folks looking for dates. Don’t be shy—ask ‘em out!

It’s not The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—but for now, it’s the next best thing. Harry Potter: The Exhibition, which displays hundreds of original props and costumes from all of the previous Harry Potter films, will be open in Manhattan’s Discovery Times Square from today through Sept. 5. (It’s already made its way through Chicago, Boston, Toronto, and Seattle.)

New additions for New York City include Harry’s invisibility cloak, the Sword of Gryffindor, Death Eater masks, and two more horcruxes (Salazar Slytherin’s locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s cup). And Mandi Bierly saw them all—including Harry and Ron’s dorm room, pictured above. Read her full report on the exhibit and see pictures of Buckbeak, Quirrell’s costume, Lockhart’s office, and more by heading over to PopWatch.

I haven’t been up to NYC since December (which for me, is a long time considering I went every 3 months last year). I think the HP exhibit is the PERFECT excuse to visit again. Well, that and the Yankees.

New Yorkers, now that the snow has thawed, it’s time to store your overcoats, bust out the shorts and tanks, and get your butt out of town.  The Hamptons isn’t the only place to go. In fact, there are great places you can visit for the day less than 2 hours from your front door.

Click through to this list for 6 day trips outside of NYC.

Above is Blue Hill at Stone Farms, the homeland of the farm-to-table fare at Blue Hill Restaurant.  It’s always been on hit list.

This is a WONDERFUL list of places to travel to if you live in or around NYC. When my mom flew up to NYC one Mother’s Day, I made the very ambitious (yet do-able) task of taking her to Blue Hill at Stone Farms AND Woodbury Commons (and succeeded)!

I have regrets for not visiting two of these places, including the Dia: Beacon and the Hudson Distillery. Considering I dated someone for a few years (whose family lived in the Hudson Valley ), I’m pretty pissed at myself for not making more of an effort on visiting these places. Even after the fact. Between Metro North and Zipcars, I should’ve made my way up there. Someone please go to these places and then tell me they are as wonderful as I imagine them to be.

Wanted: A New Best Friend For The Dog Who Survived The NYC Snow Storm

thecranium:

A cruel person left this dog chained to the pedestrian walkway on the Williamsburg Bridge during the massive snow storm the other day. A nice person noticed her on his way to work and rescued her. Now he needs someone to give her a forever home! Read the whole story here.

Tompkins Square Park. East Village, Manhattan.

The snowfall was not nearly as dramatic as the blizzard that New York City experienced a few weeks ago. It’s breathtaking though in the areas that haven’t melted yet.

And to think, I lived a block away from here. There is something beautiful about a winter wonderland in NYC.

New York City, Dec. 2010

So I went back to NYC again this past weekend (yes, again). Here’s my trip in photos:

Near Chinatown for brunch.

The 3 Musketeers (we were waiting for the 4th).

Normally I avoid Rock Center like the plague…especially around Christmas. But the tourist in me won out. I mean, it’s Christmas!
