My Thoughts on…the Westin Tampa Bay

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Joe and I decided to meet up in Tampa for the Cowboys/Bucs game at Raymond James Stadium. This was especially fun because he’s a Bucs fan and I’m a Cowboys fan. Plus, I knew it would be a blast to hang out with an NYC buddy.

Some of my current ABSOLUTE favorite websites

I’m a HUGE fan of all things shopping, cooking, and travel (especially when they cater to geeks like me)…so it’s no wonder that some of my current favorite websites incorporate all of the above!

Snique Away
Do you like traveling? (YES) Do you like saving money? (YES) Do you like the idea of gorgeous accommodations for half the price? (WHO DOESN’T?) Then look no further than Snique Away:

The site offers domestic and international hotel discounts on luxurious hotel chains and boutique hotels alike. Usually each sale is featured for about a week before showcasing a different venue. There are usually 5 or 6 hotels featured at a time (at the time of this post Sedona, Antigua, Jupiter FL, Nuevo Vallarta NM, and NYC are all featured). If you’re looking for some inspiration and/or are flexible on your travel dates, this is definitely worth checking out. Need an invite to register a username? No problem.

Shop It To Me
If you’re anything like me, you lust after the designer labels showcased in the pages of Vogue (but can’t even dream of affording any of it). Enter Shop It To Me’s website:

Although filling out a profile of your favorite types of clothing, designers, and accessories can be a bit time consuming, the pay off is totally worth it. At the end of it all, you get an e-mail 2-3 times a week with all of the things you specified (and none of the junk you don’t care about!). Oh, and the BEST part of it all…not only do you get your favorite label duds delivered to your inbox, but they are on heavily discounted! Sure that means they’re making room for next season’s frocks, but that means more cute clothes for you closet!

My Thoughts On…6 Columbus

Let me preface this by apologizing about the lack of consistent posts. After my whole dating social experiment, I kinda just wanted to lay low. There are tons of things that I wanted to write about (but never got around to). So forgive me.

Two weeks ago I went back to NYC for a short weekend visit. It was kind of a spontaneous trip, since one of my friends wanted to fly up to visit. And of course me, always looking for any excuse to head up to the Big Apple, happily obliged when she asked if I’d be interested in going with her. The first night I just stayed with one of my friends (and she one of hers), but we decided to book a hotel for Saturday night. Being that the U.S. Open was happening as well as Fashion Week, the city was a-buzzin’. So I was worried about finding a decent hotel in a decent neighborhood for a decent price.

First, I stumbled upon Booking.com, which turns out to be a pretty awesome site to find good deals on nice hotels. The other great thing about this site? You don’t have to pay for the hotel in full like on other sites. If you change your mind and want to cancel your reservation, you can as long as you do it within the hotel’s cancellation policy window. I ended up finding 6 columbus, which is a Thompson Hotel near Columbus Circle. I even looked at hotels that I could book with my NYU Alumni discount, but the closest thing I could find was a Holiday Inn. Hmm, Holiday Inn or boutique hotel? The choice was obvious.

So above is a photo of our room (right) and bathroom (left). The room (the pod room) was originally $400, but I booked it for $200.

Pros: Wonderful hotel chain of boutique hotels. Friendly staff. Great location. Clean. Nice. Oh, and did I mention the heated floors in the bathroom? Perfect for when you get out of a cold shower.

Cons: TINY. The Pod room is especially small. Perfect for one person, snug for two. And I can’t imagine paying the full $400 price for the room. And the water in the bathroom sink had a slow drain (although that might’ve been just in our room).

Overall, I’d stay at the hotel again, especially if it were just me. But I wouldn’t pay full price. Then again, you’re paying for comfort and location. Soooo, you make the call.
